Circle Times are when children have the opportunity to participate in large group activities with guided instruction from the teacher. Circle time encourages listening, talking, and sharing among the children and modeling opportunities for the teacher.
During Circle Times teachers introduce new concepts, facts, and show and tell how to perform tasks. Students are engaged, yet learn how to take turns responding in a group setting. They learn to develop respect for others opinions and thoughts.
First Circle
During first Circle Time, the focus is on days of the week, months of the year, weather and mathematics. Incorporating math into their daily lives allows the children to be able to use basic addition and subtraction, be able to recognize greater than and less than, tally, pattern, etc.
Second Circle
Second Circle Time is focused around the weekly thematic topic. This is when new concepts and facts are introduced. This time provides an opportunity for oral language experiences that extend children’s vocabulary, knowledge and recall.
Hands on science activities may be included in large group times or implemented into small groups to promote high level thinking and reasoning.
Third Circle
Third Circle Time focuses primarily on Language and Literacy as part of a phonetic awareness program. Students participate in a variety of interactive activities that promote letter and sound recognition, word building, rhyming and hand writing.
